Kaitoke Regional Park, New Zealand

Ethereal refuge -- In The Lord of the Rings films, much of the elven abode of Rivendell, home of Elrond and Arwen, is filmed at the studio in Wellington, where the expert set makers created a haven of perpetual autumn. One set for Rivendell was built here on location, though, in the lush temperate rain forest about 50km north of the Kiwi capital.

Here, unlike the place where elves lamented upon their imminent departure from Middle-Earth, the grass and the fern leaves are perennially green, long after the film crew and park managers have carefully restored the area after the filming, leaving no trace behind.

These photos were taken with the Nikon D100 digital SLR and 20mm f/2.8 lens.
